In order to enjoy skiing, one element is essential - snow. A few decades ago snow was almost guaranteed during ski season but that is no longer the case.
Increasingly, climate change has seen many ski resorts experiencing lower snowfalls and shorter ski seasons. And if global warming continues unchecked, we can expect to see this trend accelerating in the future.
Most scientists agree that excess carbon dioxide emissions are responsible for global warming and climate change. One of the major culprits is pollution from heating, vehicles, industry and electricity generation. If these emissions are not cut soon, the affect on the worldwide environment will be profound.
The effects of climate change are everywhere. Glaciers are melting, plants and animals are being forced from their habitat, and the number of severe storms and droughts is increasing. The impact on the ski industry will be particularly profound.
The good news is it's not too late yet. In addition to supporting environmental initiatives, everyone of us can make a difference by living green and encouraging others to do the same.
